Located along the Rivanna River corridor in Charlottesville, Riverside Village is a mixed-use development that combines residential, commercial, and community-oriented uses within a connected neighborhood framework. Waterstreet Studio provided landscape architecture services for the commercial portion of Riverside Village, working with the project team to develop the site’s streetscape, pedestrian connections, outdoor gathering areas, and landscape character. Our work focused on creating a welcoming setting for businesses and visitors through coordinated paving, planting, site furnishings, and circulation improvements that support pedestrian activity and enhance the connection between buildings and public spaces.

The landscape establishes a cohesive identity for the commercial area while responding to the larger character of the development and its Charlottesville context. Thoughtfully designed outdoor spaces provide opportunities for gathering and interaction, creating a more inviting experience for residents, visitors, and businesses while reinforcing the role of landscape as an important component of a vibrant mixed-use environment.
