Baltimore Estate
Baltimore Estate
Set in the picturesque landscape of Baltimore County, Maryland, this home initially lacked context and a sense of place. While the building’s design intended it to feel like an old farmhouse, the surrounding site lacked the layout and planting to properly ground it within its pastoral setting.
Waterstreet Studio’s landscape architects set out to reveal and articulate the context and to highlight the Piedmont landscape from which the building drew its forms. The outdoor spaces and circulation were clearly distinguished. Careful consideration of edges, adjacencies, and intersections of these areas created an easy and instinctive movement to and from the house, its outdoor rooms, and the larger landscape. The site’s agrarian past informed the definition of these spaces, blending architecture with the immediate landscape and its larger context. Site components included an outdoor pool and spa, several water features, terraces and gardens for intimate and large gatherings. This project was completed in Fall 2009.
