VCU Front Doors - Phase 1
VCU Front Doors - Phase 1
A vibrant urban campus whose boundaries blend almost seamlessly into the adjacent City of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University sought to enhance the sense of arrival and identity through the creation of a network of new landscape “Front Doors”. Through an earlier Master Plan process with Ayers Saint Gross, Waterstreet lead the identification of these critical spaces that would welcome visitors with an iconic visual landmark. Our work also went beyond the visual and leveraged the project to also improve the safety of pedestrians as they crossed the busy road through curb extensions and traffic calming elements. A multi-year and multi-phase endeavor, Waterstreet continues to implement them throughout campus.
